Stone Anchoring Solutions

This presentation focuses on anchoring design for natural or cast stone cladding of various sizes with emphasis on large scale or ‘dimensional’ stone. Stone anchoring system selection criteria will be presented followed by discussion of back-up system considerations and anchor design examples. Content will also include a summary of available code and design guide provisions and their application. Hand analysis and FEA methods will be illustrated.

• To recognize the differences in available anchoring systems for smaller and larger scale stone.
• To understand the design criteria for stone back-up systems and potential limitations and benefits.
• To know prescriptive approaches for small scale stone anchorage and when engineered design is required.
• To have been presented design methodology for large scale stone anchors and their fasteners including hand and computer techniques.
